Competitive Walkabout Mini Golf is a reality for the AMA

Top: Arizona Modern (Easy) Bottom: Quixote Valley (Hard)

Words by Tom Loftus (aka Mr. Tee)

Sometime in 2021 Walkabout Mini Golf came to our attention. Not only had we heard rave reviews in relation to the game play but it was becoming clear that this virtual reality game was bringing many people a new perspective on the game of mini golf. We were seeing people in local leagues and larger tournaments who were introduced to the fun competitive side of the game.

When our team first launched the AMA, we had a notion of incorporating Walkabout into what we were doing. As we looked at ways to expand our reach and include more people in our events for our 2023 season, Walkabout was at the top of our list to bring on board. I had already played in the weekly tournaments and saw how diligent the organizers were to assure that the results from the competitive play were reliable and legit. I touched base with the the crew of Bear313, Crudzilla and TrippinBill got the thumbs up to include the results from the first week of Season 8. A few days in advance an easy and hard course on Walkabout were chosen at random. All competitors would play two rounds. One on the desert-themed Arizona Modern (easy course) and the other on the windy Quixote Valley (hard course).

1st Place - Jorge Rimblas

Across 6 time periods between across January 21st (for those on the western side of the Atlantic Ocean) and 22nd, we had 16 different AMA members opt-in to have their scores included in the 2nd virtual event of 2023. The winner was Jorge Rimblas from Minnesota (via Mexico). He tallied an impressive -21 on the hard version of windmill-filled Quixote Valley course. Find all of the results below and a recap on our event page.

And Maxwell Cullen, the 8-year-old son of our first-season champion Mick Cullen, may have taken the most strokes in his rounds this wild shot on Arizona Modern may be the play of the tournament. Way to go, Max!
