Buckle Up in Texas!

As the AMA continues to expand, we are looking for tournaments in areas of the country we haven’t had much presence in yet. Luckily for us, Jason Long, owner of Longview Greens Mini Golf, reached out to us about the Texas Mini Golf Championship. One thing led to another and we were able to bring them onboard as a new AMA tournament about a month before they teed off.

This was the third year of the tournament and it was held on April 29th - 30th. Practice was on the 29th and the three official rounds were held on the 30th in beautiful weather conditions. A $5,000 cash pot was dispersed amongst the competitors, with $1,000 going to the overall winner and payment down to 20th. More importantly than cash, though, may be the coveted belt buckle that is awarded to the winner - one of the best trophies in minigolf!

The infamous buckle

It was a tight tournament throughout, but Geoff Mosk nabbed first place with a three round score of 108, holding off Jeffrey Smith by two shots and Rainey Statum by three shots, who was coming off a U.S. Open win the week before. Rainey was also the defending champion of the tournament. Geoff’s second round score of 34 was the low round for the tournament and it positioned him well to hold off any challengers in the final round.

There were also some specialty awards presented with Best Dressed to Geoff Mosk, Most Aces to Brady McClain (5 across 3 rounds), and Mr. or Mrs. Insignificant (last place) to Cortland Callihan, who gets a free one year membership.
