With it being an off year from the WAG Tour, the field may have been smaller for MIPA 2026 but the drama was just as large. 22 players, including 5 past winners, worked to make the cut after the first 3 rounds on a beautiful September day in Connecticut. Of the 12 who survived to the 4th round, Kyle Courcy, Justin Seymour and Anna Seymour had some separation at the top but were within 2 strokes of each other, with Kyle having a small edge going into the final round. Chasing them was a pack of Mark “Highlighter” Novicki, Dave Vayda and Stephane Dulmaine. One slip by the top three and any of that group could get to the podium and potentially the top spot.
Justin Seymour closed the gap on Courcy with steady play in the final round and passed him when Courcy took a 3 on lane 11. Anna Seymour fell out of the top contention with a couple of 3s on the back nine. The drama ramped up when Courcy aces 17 to tie it and both he and Seymour made great attempts at a 2 on the long lane 18, only to come up short and forcing a playoff. Before that playoff though, there was a three-way tie for 3rd which Highlighter broke on the first hole with an ace. Anna Seymour followed that with a 2 after Vayda had taken a 3, settling places three through five.
Seymour won the toss and elected to go second in the playoff. After Courcy narrowly missed the ace on lane 1, the two traded deuces through 6 lanes. Courcy put the ball into the water on lane 7 and took a 3, opening the door for Seymour who walked through it with a perfectly placed tee shot and a nearly tap in 2 to seal his 3rd MIPA win.
The night before in the amateur tournament, Matt Hession put up two impressive 39s to win the two round tournament by one stroke over Jeff Pomeroy. Tony DeDominicis rounded out the podium with an 81.
